There are two lizard spawners which both have a cooldown rate of 400sec (6:40). There are two invisible plates that trigger the spawners, located:
1. Just N of the initial entry door (this plate only respawns one of the lizards, in the central northern section)
2. In a hallway 7 squares N of the Outer Sanctum entryway (this respawns both lizards, the one in the central northern section, and the one in the SW section.)
If you are elsewhere in the map the lizards will not spawn - you must step on the plates to trigger the spawners.

I was very very cautious with that place.
I would run in for as long as I felt comfortable, and run back to the entrance. I was creating in my head both the entry and exit plans so I wouldn't get stuck. Every time I entered I would go just a bit further.

That's a huge spoil breaking the magic! Presented like that it seems not that awful. I think I'll try kill some until I get the ring to reduce the initial population. And I'll see that said restart a new wasn't a bad idea but I've been tempted by hard difficulty and for sure for replaying first parts it's more fun but after I won't enjoy that much!

Ouch has been "awfully" easy with the hints I get in that thread, well the plate one changed all, I don't know where they are I suppose one is just before the entrance, I let the maze open avoid avoid step on that plate at the door, and waited some come, killed 2 or three, then entered, wait more in the first room killed another and some time after see another in the other room wait/attracted it in 1st room. I think it's this one that get me the key. I progressed very slowly taking time check all but no need move quickly everywhere (plate trick is huge). I don't remember well perhaps got another one or two before reach the 2 doors you can open, so closed them in case they was coming from there but I could find the stuff north, come back trigger the switch and get the stuff, had already used a button and get stuff and found some stuff on ground too. At this point the maze was fully silent. Explored past the doors closed them finally and so on.
Two fingers in the nose, well a bit of cheating knowing those tricks, and perhaps a few luck when there was 2 in the maze but I could kill one alone and get the second only after. I used few rests too. Didn't even used a potion. Well, know the hidden mechanism change a lot of thing even without knowing where are the triggers exactly. It was ok I was frightened anyway so I didn't spoiled much fun and for the terror I had already got my dose before.

The respawning ice lizards are a good place to get the exp points to level up. I just killed 20 of them yesterday playing my 3rd LoG as Toorum. I got cornered or trapped a couple times and had to re-load.
I think I can hear a faint sound of a door opening once in awhile. I expect thats where the triggers to release another lizard are.
In my first game two of them just happened to be north of the central chamber when the walls opened up and they attacked me from 2 sides as I grabbed a new item. I went into my second game thinking that would always happen, but it was just chance.
Playing as Toorum has made me a better player, as I can't 'tank' my way thru some situations and have to use tactics.

My characters are already too high level for this place be a good location for level up (they are level 13 I think and was level 12 during that level). Before to finish that level I got one dead, I had in fact the Crystal very close and could hear it but didn't want try my luck so I tried come back, strangely despite as I explained I had the maze fully silent, at north of Checkered room I had 2 saurian. I saw one and was fighting it in checkered room when the second one came, lol. But I could escape and close north door of checkered room to come back. But yeah at this point I didn't tried use my luck and face tank them at entrance of Checkered room to be sure to not face 2 at same time.
Now despite not specialized but only Normal difficulty, I don't feel anymore that my party is underpowered. But also because of some riddle (not sure yet if I interpreted it well) I came back to first level of the dungeon so took the opportunity to tried secrets or parts I skipped because I found them too hard. So I got some good additional items. Still don't know where is the blue ball for mage but I have a red one and a good wand. I find some more armor stuff a nice sword, not sure if it is better. And finally a crossbow.
