The things I mentioned can be done with the GMT (except maybe reskinning the trap doors. They're not UV mapped like a flat image.
*EDIT:
Prison trap doors are UV mapped flat, but the opposite side is upside down compared to the other.

Re: side to side doors that disappear into the frame
So I finally got chance to play around with this again and the effect actually looks pretty cool, needs a little re-positioning and I need to totally re-model my door-frame but it does look kinda cool.
Yup I totally abandoned 'rolling' the doors, way out of my skillset atm I'm afraid
Only problem now is that, since it's a remodeled pit, as soon as you walk through it you fall through unless the floor below has a wall beneath it.
Since I'm gonna have to code in a blockage so it cannot be walked through when closed, I should be able to move the blockage to either the floor or next level on button press?

You can place the atcual pit somewhere's far to the side and just offset the model/animation

Re: side to side doors that disappear into the frame
I had an Idea for that too.
So, switch your open and close animations so that when the pit is closed, it looks open, and when it's open, it looks closed.
Place a blockage behind the door when it looks closed. It has to be an indestructible blockage.
Then, whatever button you have to open the door, make it trigger a destroy command that affects the blockage.
