"Avatars" in the GoG bonus content refers to forum portrait-sized clips of the game art. They match the GoG forum standards, but should work reasonably well in any other forum system that uses a typical portrait size.

You get pretty much same bonus materials in every version of the game. GoG.com has got couple of extra pics.
