Just out of interest, have you got your "My Documents" folder set to a non-standard location (like an external HDD or a non-NTFS HDD)? Are you installing on a networked PC? Also, while your language is set to English - has it always been English? Or did you install with another language and later switch?

Not overly likely that either of the above are the cause, but I am clutching at straws as it seems like a weird error!

Hi John, thanks for looking..no, 'my documents' is set to default...and default language has always been English, and the game is locally installed. Nothing unusual.

It is a very weird error!

I can force this exact error by adding a "|" to any parameter name, i.e. "heal_party| = 72". I can even force similar errors like '=' expected near '<' by adding a "<" instead of a "|" with a regular text editor.

Since the .cfg you uploaded has no "|" in it i still doubt this is the .cfg in use. I'd check the game install folder and all user profiles on your system including the hidden ones.

There's only one grimrock.cfg in use on my system and i only have one user profile..

The .cfg is getting written to as i checked the time and the date..also the .cfg shows maxdrawdistance which was added recently...i don't get it..lol
