Just wondering
Re: Just wondering
Doh! I've used the spider hatching script before so it should of occurred to me here, this works way better (and easier) than what I was doing with scripts and spawners Thanks!

Re: Just wondering
Is there a way to check which way the party is facing relative to an object? and if so do they have to standing next to it or can they be further away?

You're very welcome! Ooh, I've not seen the spider hatching script, but that sounds like a really great idea!! Does it use smaller spiders?LocalFire wrote:Doh! Ok, I'm hoping no one will use this until after The Hub is released, because it's a great effect that two people (moslty Crisman) worked on for a long time, but it will show you how to spawn an object relative to the direction the party is facing.LocalFire wrote:Is there a way to check which way the party is facing relative to an object? and if so do they have to standing next to it or can they be further away?
Code: Select all
function slenderman()
if party.facing == 0 then
slender:destroy()
spawn("ogre_blockage", party.level, party.x, (party.y+1), party.facing, "slender")
party:shakeCamera(0.5,.5)
playSound("wall_sliding_lock")
end
endIn this way, you can change the "if party facing ==" to any direction, and you can make the distance away anything you'd like ( party.x, (party.y+8 for example). Does that make sense?
You can see the effect here: Slenderogre
Re: Just wondering
Cool, The spider script is from the modding section, posted by AH, it uses the spider, but I figure you could rescale the spider model with the model toolkit; I'll have to try it.
As for the facing thing I was thinking of trying for a weeping angel sort of thing, statue is replaced by a monster if the party is facing away, the monster replaced by a statue when they face it. I think it would make for a good single room, player walks in heading to the far side to collect a key, sees a bunch of harmless statues, but quickly realizes their mistake, then has to figure out how to cross the room and back while keeping all the statues in sight.
Might put it off until I'm better at scripting, still have a long way to go; but if anyone wants to try that would be awesome (if its possible)
And will definitely check out the slenderogre
Edit: very cool!

That's quite brilliant! Also, creepy.LocalFire wrote:Cool, The spider script is from the modding section, posted by AH, it uses the spider, but I figure you could rescale the spider model with the model toolkit; I'll have to try it.

I would LOVE to play that room!!
Re: Just wondering
I'll definately try it myself, but I only started to learn how to code mid january, so I'm a novice; still got to aim for the stars
It would be awesome if some experienced modders got onboard and worked on this, I would love to see this come life.
Edit: I was looking at Sutekh's marble gorromorg for this, since they are easily rhe creepiest monster in grimrock
It would make a good puzzle to figure out how to cross the room without them moving on you, maybe setup a plate that resets them back to where they started when you leave the room

Re: Just wondering
Another Idea I just had was to use that slenderorge script with a wall model instead of an orge (secret door model?), it would be a cool effect, you walk down a hallway and it seals behind you
With some tweaks could set it so the walls of a square room close in on you as you cross the room, I think that would be a cool effect, like those sliding wall death traps in those old movies

Re: Just wondering
Couldn't the same thing be achieved with touchplates and counters?LocalFire wrote:Another Idea I just had was to use that slenderorge script with a wall model instead of an orge (secret door model?), it would be a cool effect, you walk down a hallway and it seals behind you

Re: Just wondering
This has me thinking of a full square sized double door that closes slowly.
Wouldn't that be cool?

That would be cool...especially if you saw something creeping closer on the other side as it closes.Neikun wrote:This has me thinking of a full square sized double door that closes slowly.
