I've searched both of the fire locations, I can't seem to find anything resembling a way up. Is the way up in one of the pits?

Yeah I don't get it either. I looked in the long corridor with the fireball shooting face, hit the 2 secret buttons there and I hear a door open somewhere but don't know where!

I just found it.
Don't read this if you don't want to know exactly where the way is. Bloody plate sure did give me a run for the money.
When facing fireball spitting deamon head there's a secret button on the left side close to the head.,This opens up a secret door to the right with another secret button, which again opens up a secret door with a stairwell leading up, it's close by back down the hallway away from the deamon head.

Ok this is strange, I hit both buttons but I don't see any secret door with a stairwell leading up anywhere in the area :/

In case anyone was still confused after reading all this....
The entrance from Level 6 is down the long hallway with a plate that starts a demon face firing at you. Down this hallway there are a total of THREE hidden buttons. When you first enter the hall, the first button you see (I think it will be on the right, not sure) will open a small gap on the right. This is where the stairs up will appear (but they are not visible yet!)
Keep going down the hall, past the pressure plate - unfortunately the demon head will now be spitting at you. Quickly check the walls and I think on your left will be another secret button. Push that, and directly across the hall another gap will open. Enter this new gap, and you will see a third hidden button. Upon hitting this third button, the stairwell in the earlier gap will appear. Run back to that gap and go up the stairs. Do prepare though, as there were two fireball-chucking monsters up there, quite difficult to fight in close quarters (I fortunately had some frost bombs which work wonders on these)
