If by complete darkness you mean dim light sure. Honestly once the game does the whole your eyes adjust thing the darkness is not really all that dark.

i wasn't able to do the fighter's challenge with toorum. i have both sword of nex and the fire sword. either it's because he's not a fighter or i'm not strong enough yet

You can do the fighter's challenge with him. Make sure you've unlocked the 3 gates leading to the exit before trying to step in front of the door (it might be a requirement).

oh i got it. i forgot that i had to go down the stairs to lvl 7 first before starting the challenge

anybody that can put up a savegame for Toorum somewhere close to his remains
or is their anyway i can activate the character without playing trough the whole game again?

1°) Go in your C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Almost Human\Legend of Grimrock directory.
2°) Create a new file named "toorum_lives.txt"
3°) Edit the file and write "Toorum was here."
You should now be able to play with Toorum (this is just a guess, but if I remove this file I can't play with toorum anymore).

Hmm sounds reasonable. I'd test it but I already got the achievement and I am in the middle of my toorum run at the moment.
