Sadly these are things that the Grimrock modding community can't influence. So the things we *can* influence (helping newbies, documenting solutions, etc) are where we can make a positive contribution. It's great to see that so many of you have been doing this already, sharing knowledge and posting solutions to modder's requests.Azel wrote:You have to want to engage in this hobby as a personal goal, where the outcome is you being happy with yourself, lol
Yeah, this is kinda disappointing, but is obviously a direct result of the niche nature of Grimrock and the complexity of requirements to build anything beyond a 'simple' dungeon. I think if a modder is looking for a platform to show off their skills to a wide audience, Grimrock definitely isn't it. But that does mean the remaining Grimrock modders are likely to be highly dedicated, given the choice they've made.Azel wrote:The numbers kinda speak for themselves (via NexusMods) :

I should clarify what I said in that other thread. I play around with modding things, because I enjoy it as a creative outlet. The process of learning a new engine and building something on it is fun, and that's normally enough for me.cromcrom wrote:Does it mean, like for Gambit37, that once the mod is done, you won't release it to the public ?
Most of the time however, I don't finish a complete dungeon/level/whatever because it's not my primary motivator. The learning and creating is the fun part, and once I'm sufficiently happy that I understand how to do what I want, I've usually reached a point of contentment that ironically means I generally stop and move on to something else... Perhaps I just get bored easily, but I've learned to accept that's part of my character and creative happiness.
If I do finish a complete playable mod, I would absolutely release it to the community. However, I suspect most people would find it boring as I'm not remotely interested in modding the things that the rest of you seem to enjoy (internal systems, traits, classes, etc). Those sorts of mechanics don't interest me; I'm more more concerned with story, mood and atmosphere, and I take zero enjoyment from the sorts of hard-core mechnics modding that, for example, cromcrom enjoys. So yeah, I would release a mod and it would be great if people enjoyed it, but it's not the main motivator for me.
