I agree. I enjoyed playing Nethack with it's permadeath. Please add this soon! I wold love it in this game. Randomized levels for the replay value would be great alongside this as well.

i would love a perma-death option. also, when user created dungeons come out, designers should be able to mark dungeons as perma-death only.

ALSO -- a variant:

Only saves at blue crystal! No saving anywhere else. Please!!!

It would be neat if a death system was in place like Nethack. In the next go around, find your old party's skeletons (maybe some of the gear not already looted by monsters guarded by a ghost) where you died.

i'm not sure lootpiles would be as interesting in Grimlock as they are in nethack. there's no concept of 'cursed' items, for example, nor the depth of item modification/enhancement. that is to say, by the time you get to your loot pile in grimlock, you'd already have the exact same weapon set, which isn't true in nethack.

don't get me wrong; i'd love to see a heavy duty mod for grimrock that shifted out and made it more of a turn based combat system, etc, as well as other massive changes.

i haven't played nethack in ages -- i finally ascended without scumsaving and gave it up cold turkey cause it had devoured my gaming time for months, lol. been playing crawl lately, though. another awesome game.

along with perma-death I would also like to see the removal of the crystals. I felt like I was cheating with the crystals nearby.
run to crystal heal run back fight run back to crystal etc etc...
no crystals should be in hard mode

You can play this way without any mods, just delete your save file ;D
If you're hardcore enough to play this way, you're hardcore enough not to pussy out of deleting your saves.

Are we talking about the same thing by the way, permanent party death or permanent character death?

I'm thinking character death. I played most of the game thinking that character death was permanent so finding out it wasn't isn't much of a big deal to me. It certainly makes the game a lot easier knowing you can revive though.

I played until the note by the crystal thinking death was permanent. Then I became ever more bothered by the final fantasy style save crystals. That is about my only niggle about the game. I wanted to go smash crystals to bits... hah

I play it on hardcore old-school without hand-mapping and only auto save at crystals. No real problems till now (Level 5 or 6). Feels just right.
