That's beautiful! That's what I expect to see when with Render Quality: High. I'm glad to see it's not a problem for everyone.

I will consider the mystery solved for now, unless someone with OpenGL Grimrock has these color issues too. I'm a little sad DX9 doesn't have a solution (right?), but it won't stop me from playing - not a chance

Well, it doesn't happen with the DirectX version on every system. The shadows in the
official screenshots look fine, for example, and I noticed no banding issues when I played on a Windows machine (sorry, no hardware specs - can't remember and it's a few kilometers away right now). I have no idea when or why it happens, though.

They are .jpg too unfortunately, but I would say there are banding issues, on the ceilings of these two especially:
