As I sat there, carefully rubbing out my nth map mistake and re-drawing it, I realised I haven't had this much fun in a game for years. Memories came back of opening up the Dungeon Master Box, inserting the floppy disk (Yes, floppy disk for those disbelieving youngsters out there) and getting doubly excited when the 'WHOOSH' of the FTL logo coming up on the screen.
I'll always remember the clanking sound of the dungeon doors opening and my first tentative steps into the dungeon crawler world, clicking on the portraits, choosing my party...and then almost jumping into the ceiling when the first Mummy attacked me!
Thanks Almost Human, for not only a great game, but for allowing me to relive something that I thought was gone forever...the ability to immerse myself in a game that doesn't automatically win for you.
A big cheer for the AH Team,
CHEER!

The forgotten joys of Map-Making!
Re: The forgotten joys of Map-Making!
Even with the map it is easy to get lost. I commend those willing to venture without it. I'm not sure where you're up to but there are sections of the game where you get teleported and spun around. The only thing you notice is a screen flicker. Of course you can easily tell with the map, but you're going to have to be looking at your compass a lot.
To me that just adds a tedium to the whole thing.
