Need help on Level 7

I know I'll feel dumb(er) after seeing the answer to this, but:
On the NE side of the map on Level 7, there's a 3x5 room where the east side of the room is separated from the west side by a row of pits. I can't figure out how to get from the east side to the west side. Maybe I don't even need to do this, but I do need to get on to the rest of the map (Pit Puzzle, area exits, etc.). How to do this?

I assume you're talking about the area you came in from a teleporter, right?
If so,
don't worry. You can't get past the pits for now, but you'll get there later.

No, didn't get there (east side of pits) by teleport. I just walked there from the earler part of the map, through the slime room and past the crystal. Now I have no place else to go unless I either get across the pits or find some teleport or hidden door that gets me to the last part of the map.
Actually, I think I was up too late. I just realized that I never tried the teleport located on the east side, as I THOUGHT (from some other reading) that it led to the same place that just jumping in the pit takes you. *facepalm*
I'll try the teleport soon as my Saturday honey-do list is done.
