Question with "spoilers" about final boss!

Ok so I am very curious about the thinking behind the "Imprisoning" of the Undying (the Giant Mech Cube). if the Goromorgs (Cthulu mage dudes) were trying to keep it from ever being released, and they have control over GARGANTUAN metal plated golems. why the heck didn't they just kill it? clearly they were able to dismantle it at some point in their history, and I assume they used the weapon of power to do the dismantling. So...does it ever say if they need the cube for anything? was the cube kind of like Glados? an integral part of their lab? (home, dungeon, ect?) that they couldn't destroy or else the dungeon would collapse as it does when you kill the cube?

I just can't imagine why those very powerful creatures wouldn't just kick that sentient rubix cube straight to hell XP

I was wondering that too.

Because the whole mountain would explode, as we saw. Their home, their base of operations, etc.

We don't know the whole story. Perhaps they summoned it from another dimension, thinking they were going to gain demonic power, but instead unleashed its wrath upon the world...at which point they decided to seal it away. Can't destroy it, can't send it back without inviting more.

Well if the cube is to be believed, Grimrock, at least the button level, was originally of "his" design, but the Goromorgs turned into his prison.

I know you were just suggesting this, but due to the fact that gears symbolize the Undying one and you can see gears all over the place even on the skeleton knight shields. It suggests that mister Crushing Cube has been around a long time, but in his glory days he had armies of Legionaries.

that certainly is curious. I assume the Goromorgs ressurected the legionaries once they took over, but I never considered that whilst alive they could have served the undying. Course....they just as well may not have. considering it never quite gets explained.

The statues of the Goromorgs have the cog/gear theme, so maybe both the Undying one and them had some sort of technology.

It could be symbolic. They are standing on top of the gear right?
It's as if they are keeping it held down. Also note that their temple sits atop Mr. Cube Faces prison.

No, it's at their back.

Okay now that I have gone in game to look at them. The gear is actually chained to them, I think. So it's like their burden. Which actually makes more sense then my previous idea.
They bear the burden of containing Sir Undying MicCuberson.
