Band of asylum rejects finishes game at level 16

Post by marcuz99 »

Started as

- a human female fighter specializing only in swords, with no armor, so to be comfortable when strolling in your regular dungeon;
- a grim faced, cowl on eyes type, human male fighter with axe and probably heavy armor, with strength so average you wonder how could he even lift his axe, but so dexterous that he unerringly drops it on foe's feet or tentacles;
- a clumsy but strong minotaur rogue specializing in missile weapons and in nothing else (he's very dedicated apparently);
- a mantis mage (possibly a EoB I escapee) with a knack for throwing snowballs at eletctical outlets.

They were rightly imprisoned for their obviously insane quirks but for a legal loopole too obscure to mention, they were risking to go scott free, so the king' counselor made up a story about mysterious depths and treasures and freedom awaiting them at the bottom of a legendary dungeon and preemptively paroled them throwing them down a disposable hole in a inaccessible location.

It's a modern environmental fable about the dangers of throwing (antisocial) pollutants and (axe wielding) thrash in a delicate and fragile ecosystem made of fungal societies, snails and skeletal warriors.

A shame, really, they actually beat the game.

So it goes that at the middle of the dungeon they are great at damage dealing, the sword-woman and the cowbow (bowcow?) more than the others, but while the woman is also evasive, as it is in her character possibly, the other guys pretty much stark naked (nobody ever considered taking armor as specialization), were dying at every turn.

Ok they had a bit of vitality, that's cool, it kept them in high spirit, but the scavengers and crabs were unmoved by their wits and humor.

I suppose the Uggardian would have been a better audience.

So anyway, they needed to beef up a lot, put up some weight, grow a chin.

They started chopping snails and figuring how the legionaries moved, and move snails bits to completely surround the treasury room in the trapped level, for future consumption, slowly, because hoarding shmucks as they were, and feeble armed as they kept being, they were unable to carry much food with them.

In really little time the haunted halls became completely carpeted by large shield.

Uggardians in the halls of fire were used to toast bread and snail slices.

And finally, some hours later they had some little point to spend in armor and dodging! How cool it became then! They ran at the room they stashed with heavy armor (too heavy to bring around) and the dangerous looking fighter happily wear it with a murderous look on his jail-bound face.

The woman preferred indulging her SM/BD fetishes by mixing lurker-latex and chitinous pieces of armor, all the while staring lusciously at the uncomfortable mantis mage next to her.

The cow was still cow-ing.

Next they ran happily at the temple, chasing down poor Goromorgs, for the prized and fatty 1000XP they were leaving behind them.
Pacific and flowers loving Goromorgs were chased extinct by this kill spreading poisonous band of filthy mutants and lizard hating marauders.

At the end, they destroyed the poor Rubik cube prototype that was keeping stable, in a feat of architectural mastery, the whole mountain, providing a healthy habitat for its denizens, causing the mountain fall tumbling on their heads.

The morale is that Evil kill itself, leaving poor mushrooms and skeletons homeless.

The game was great puzzle-wise, possibly the best dungeon crawl I've ever played in that regard. I'm not convinced by the ambientation, and by the lack of depth (that's taste I suppose) that leaves little to work your imagination upon.
Also a bit more consistency or, at the contrary, even variety in the monsters I would appreciated more; but still, such a enjoyable dungeon crawl, very well thought and planned, very well realized and very well playable in 2012, it's a marvelous feat.

Great job o developers, thank you!
