The world of Grimrock : "The Northern Realms"

Hi,

We often talking modding about old video games remakes using the Grimrock engine.
Maybe, it may be nice to create mods in the respect of the "nothern realms", the world of Grimrock.

When I bought Grimrock (from gog.com), I get an extra .pdf file with the map of the entire world of GrimRock.
I think this map can give many ideas to create new mods for the game...

Kindest Regards,
AmiDARK

I'm more for expanding the existing lore of grimrock as opposed to rehashing old games.

Absolutely agree with both of you. Personally, I just want to be sure that no toes are stepped on. Meaning that I don't want to see anyone start undertaking a mod, and have it be something Almost Human was planning on doing. I can't really imagine that they would put that much work into a world, and not plan to expand upon it.

This.

Lets wait for a few more expansions or maybe just more lore(in the form of short stories, novels, general documentation) from the devs.
We know very little about The Northern Realms or the rest of the world for that matter.
Best we not run around the Northern Realms making shit up.

The issue of remakes comes from most of us wanting to relive our first dungeon crawl experience.
If you don't want to do a remake why not make your own setting, I know a few world building tips.

Tip the first: All quests start in taverns, when a random stranger either tells the main characters a rumor that they instantly believe to be fact, or offers them some overly dangerous job with insufficient compensation that they obviously can't say no to.

Hi,

If the developers tell a bit more concerning the realm, maybe some external groups can be created to help in creating new lores for this realm ;)
Projects may be in some sort *directed* by the Grimrock developers to be sure the project remain in what they want to have in the northern realms ;)

Or just be vague, "You arrive somewhere to the north, you've fallen into a whole and can't go back, all that's left is to move forward."

I would make a dungeon that doesn't have a GRAND SCHEME of a storyline first. Just focusing on a single dungeon with a plot that doesn't involve any more than that dungeon should suffice and not tamper with the world as a whole. That way, by the way here's the map:

that way, if you want to incorporate it into the world, you can simply say your dungeon is somewhere like "in the mountains west of the Serpent River".

You don't gotta say your dungeon is the secret lost ruins of a forgotten ancient city, only accessible from a hidden stairway underneath the King of Theraen's throne. That's over the top. Don't be over the top. Save crazy ambitious stuff for later.
