Community event suggestion
Oy thar, lads and lasses, It just occured to me that while LoG will most probably offer modding capabilities one day, there are people out there who are no good with scripting or 3D modelling and shite, but still want to contribute and share their creative spirit with the community. So me thought, why not hold a little contest ev'ry now and then that allows e.g. those who have fancy monsters on their mind that might look good in the game, but cannot do the realisation beyond the concept, to throw in their idea, so we elect some of those ideas to be realised by either other community members who are more capable - or maybe even the boys at Almost Human themselves? The latter would assure that stuff goes well with the original artwork in the game, too.

Re: Community event suggestion
Maybe we could have a dungeon-making event, where everyone votes for their favorite dungeon and the Almost Human team gives out a special prize?

Re: Community event suggestion
As this seems like its going to be the defacto thread for these discussions id like to start off with something simple assuming they dont crop up in the game itself, Just an exercise in getting creative juices flowing more than a serious suggestion!
1. Caltrops, quickly drop some whilst being pursed, but don't forget to pick them up before running down a corridor were you deposited them! could be modified with properties such as poison, magical effects.
2. Spiders that crawl along multiple surfaces, ceilings walls etc for an extra creepy effect, not sure how this would effect the combat mechanics though.
3. Temporarily enthralling creatures to do your bidding, this one might be impractical as i cant really see how it would work from a first person perspective, however could possibly be fun!

Great idea. Traps are generally a viable tactical means in grid-based games.Codpiece of Doom wrote:1. It would be possible in theory - Since the maps are planar and grid-based, the dungeons are effectively composed of cubes. Consequently, an enemy could be positioned on a wall or a ceiling without affecting its actual location on the map. A spider that sits on the ceiling might e.g. use a different means of attack than a spider that moves on the ground. However, there is a serious problem: Since movement in the game is restricted to one square at a time, a creature that crawls along a wall cannot move around the inner edge of a corner - because by doing so, it would move 3 squares in one step, which is against the inherent rules of a grid-based game.2. Spiders that crawl along multiple surfaces, ceilings walls etc for an extra creepy effect, not sure how this would effect the combat mechanics though.
Again, in theory it would certainly be possible - and the first person perspective is not a problem. The issue comes again with the grid-based nature of the game: Since large parts of the game take place in narrow hallways, which consist of single squares in a row - hence you fight mostly one enemy at a time - possessing creatures would be utterly uselless. Even in rooms that are composed of multiple squares, getting enemies to fight each other would hamper your maneuverability rather than being helpful.3. Temporarily enthralling creatures to do your bidding, this one might be impractical as i cant really see how it would work from a first person perspective, however could possibly be fun!

Re: Community event suggestion
Thanks for the reply TΛPETRVE. I found it really interesting getting feedback on my ideas, its certainly important to discuss with others what might be a feasible change to the games mechanics, id love to see what others will suggest now. I suppose there is a difference between level design (as Jack Dandy mentioned) and changing the fundamental principles of gameplay, so if there was community event of some description, it would be nice to see a variety of different things.

I like the idea.TΛPETRVE wrote: Great idea. Traps are generally a viable tactical means in grid-based games.
You could lay traps using a similar interface you use to cast magic. Like "select this trap with this effect".
Traps would be craftable using the scraps you commonly find in a dungeon.
It would suck to step on your own traps, though...

How about a character designed in the likeness of the winner, or a cool one of a kind item. Pizza is fine with me, but it might be cold by the time it departs from Finland!Darklord wrote:Pizza?Jack Dandy wrote: the Almost Human team gives out a special prize?![]()

Would be a nice way to sabotage a group of monsters. Switch the allegiance of one in the back row and watch as he skewers his mates from the rear. Not possibly fun - that would be extremely insanely possibly fun.Codpiece of Doom wrote:3.
