Steam is having trouble connecting to the Steam servers

I hate Steam. Always have, always will. They are so horrible.

I've been trying 90 minutes to make it work. Still, no luck. Forward the ports on the router (why so many ports anyway?!), turned off Comodo firewall/Defense+, made sure Windows firewall is off, reboot, etc. Tons of people are having trouble connecting with this  (*&$(*@# client.

Could it be possible to have the beta editor available somewhere else than on this silly "service"? I understand the 'easy update' thing, but if some of us can't even get it, it's worst.

I'm honestly sorry you are having those frustrations. Many of us are using the Steam service without problems, but maybe they are having some network issues in your area or with your ISP. I hope you can try again to work it out. If not then hopefully the beta time won't be too long, and hey, we will have suffered all the bugs so you don't have to!

Sometimes due to specific computer setup, software, or hardware issues (router settings, wireless, ISP protocols, etc) people can have issues that have nothing to do with their intelligence, so it doesn't help to call them stupid. I like the Steam service (when it works well) too.

I had my first PC 20 years ago, so I know my way around. I've installed tons of software/OS and I'm a C++/C# programmer, so I'm not a newbie in the industry. When you look at all the people having the same issue as I do, you can't only blame the 'stupid' people. There has to be fingers pointing at the software too.

Steam has always been incredibly picky when it comes to connections. One little wrong setting and it will tell you "err... something's wrong" without any other hint. I'll see if I can install it at work and, if I can't, I'll have to forget about the beta dungeon editor.
