Can this ever be possible? Rather than just connecting Levels above and below? If outdoor environments get created I could see this being a very good idea, especially for modders. ;)

It would be where if you are at the edge of a map, you can see the next map's walls / doors / or even open areas and if you enter the first tile of the new map, your map updates to the new area map.

the way I would suggest going about it is teleporters set to invisible in a line set about 4 squares in from the 'edge' of your map.

so you make a zone then on the north of the map you make the 1st 4 squares deep of the next north zone. then do the same to that zone only with the bottom or south of that zone. and repeat for all the other zones. sadly monsters and the like will not show up for line of site if you are in one zone and the monster is in another zone.

just have it be a door or big gate that when you click it it teleports you to the "other side", thus there is an excuse for the monsters not following

it would have to be like a field wall with a gateway in it in that case, or a city area with a door to the next town segment, etc. A lot of the old games did it this way

hope not.. seems like it would be fine for some towns / castles / caves or something but.. thats about it.. Field Walls / Gates all the time sounds like an Immersion killer. ;)
