stair linking

is it possible to get stairs to link on different maps instead of direct sector linkage?
i'm unable to recreate the original Dungeon Master maps, because the stairwells do not line up. they are more like inter level teleports in the original.

in Grimrock, if you go down stairs on level 1 at sector X, Y - you will come out at sector X, Y on level 2. i need to be able to go down the stairs on level 1 at sector X, Y and come out at sector A, B on level 2.

The guys here have already set that up with a pretty tricky teleporter deal, not sure where that thread is right now...
