Fresh install from Steam on Windows 8

I've installed a fresh Windows 8 (I know, I know, but believe me it's less ugly than some think) and instantly setup Steam with Grimrock.

No way to start Grimrock.

Being a compulsive buyer (at least for everything regarding Grimrock and PvZ ;) ) I also had a copy on GoG. Downloaded that and installed and everything worked. I think the problem might be in the (lack of) installation of DirectX 9.0c runtime using Steam, but I have no way to prove that.

Have you tried to find grimrock.exe through windows explorer and running it?

Not tried anything else - also because having the GoG version I didn't actually think twice.
I just thought it was worth reporting in case someone else had the same problem :)

I can confirm. Lack of file called "x3daudio1_7.dll" (part of DX9.0c) is the problem. I've just experienced it :)

Simple solution: reinstall dx9c.

Genius - worked. Thanks very much.

Windoze 8 is horrible! install Pokki to make it less horrible. I wish these games were available on Linux!

Uh well I guess it's subjective. I like it a lot and especially I like not having the start button in the taskbar - I never used it as I use much more keyboard than mouse and it's one less icon to clutter the taskbar. That said, I understand most people dislike it and I totally understand their reasons. So far my biggest complain with it is the poor customizability in terms of colors.
