[Video] Snails (magic missiles) vs. Crowers (fireballs)

I had some fun with my new magic system and here is the result:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7cR7sc ... cyam8/edit

I gave 10 magic missiles for each snail and 10 fireballs to crowerns and made them attack to each others. They do not attack their own species besides accidentally. And they don't actually try to attack on other monsters, but for example if there is a crowern in front of snail (5 tiles ahead at most) when it moves, the snail will cast a magic missile.

You can download the video from File -> Download menu in upper left corner, that preview quality is pretty bad.

Yeah, it worked surprisingly well. I think this method could be used to make some monsters to be enemies of some others. But I don't think that it will work so well if monsters don't have ranged attacks.

that video is awesome, this sort of thing could be used to really good effect in a dungeon if done right!

Those snails didn't stand a chance.. They can't see as good as a crowern can.

Second period: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B7cR7s ... TVfblZocXc

Crowerns now have flame arrow spells and snails Melf's acid arrow spells.
I also added a herder with hold monster spell as a referee. I'm not sure what snail_20 did but for some reason it got 2 penalties in row, I guess it said something bad about the referees looks.

And I improved the "AI" so that now monsters do cast spells also when they are turning (except the referee).

Snails won by the way.

Haha What constitutes a penalty? Going offside?
How would you get a crowern to trigger a penalty?

This makes me smile like Christmas morning! I love the herder ref, btw. Brilliant work!

@Neikun: It's completely random, the referee will give a penalty (held for 6 seconds) if it moves towards any monster, it gave penalties to crowerns too.

Oh neat! I just figured you were handling it via pressure plate. The way you actually did it is much more elegant
