Teleporter that deflects fireballs

Post by SharinaDarkstar »

How do I create a teleporter which turns fireballs 90 degrees, like the ones in Dungeon Master?
I've asked my teleporter to change facing, activated by items, monsters and the party, but fireballs go straight through without changing direction.

How do I achieve this?

Thanks in advance :)

use a receptor hidden activate by fireball in the teleporter and spawn a fireball in other direction

I also really really want this. I hope they allow it in the next editor update, but as of right now projectile spells are unaffected by teleporters. You can kinda fake it by creating additional shooters that go off once the projectile enters a certain square, but it can still be problematic this way and a real hassle for something that could be simple.

There are a couple of wierd things in the logic of Grimrock (or the editor, anyway) which seem a bit - um - illogical.
For example, I can't put a teleporter under a pit so that when someone falls down a pit they teleport somewhere. If I do, the game says "warning - entity is falling. Teleportation ignored.". Why? If I designed this in my dungeon, why ignore me? The idea is that the party jumps into a "portal" pit and lands in another dimension. If I give the level below the graphics set for the other dimension, then this mucks up any stairs down on the level which would mysteriously take you to another dimension, and stairs can't take you down two levels. It would be much simpler to just go "well that seems silly, but I'll let him do it anyway - he must know what he's doing"!

Hmm, as far as I can tell the receptor idea can't work because the deflector teleport is in the middle of a room - not against a wall... and the receptor can't destroy the fireball that enters it. This really is a very basic thing - deflecting fireballs. I'm having to totally rework my puzzle at the moment :(

In this case you can use a hidden pressure plate that active the teleporter (or active a script that heal your party and active your teleporter if you will no damage).

For the fireball teleport I have no other idea.

It's a case of using workarounds - the problem with the whole falling teleporter thing is that, whatever happens, you see the party falling into the next level before they are teleported which sort of kills the effect.

I have plenty of other puzzles to get on with :)

I promise, the devs didn't sit around and say "let's not let a party fall into a teleporter, let's make it not work!".

Rather, they had to code an engine, create a game that WORKS, and in the case of making teleporters work and making falling work, it turned out with the programming that they just didn't mix well, so be it. There is an easy workaround, the hidden plate, so no biggie. 8-)
