Defence & Evasion

Hi,

Could anyone pls clarify how defence/evasion works under the hood?
I wonder if the following is true: the higher stat value is, the less effect you get from every point added? I assume this is true, and it's interesting to have a little clue at which point there is no reason to pump these stats anymore...

Basically, I want to be able to make a sane decision in a situation when you have a 10 defence/30 evasion character, and say two armors - one gives +6 defence, another increases evasion by 6, what will be the optimal choice? Currently I have no idea... just dumb defence and evasion numbers that don't tell me anything besides a general 'the bigger the better'

I know that the elemental defenses are percents of 100, so once you reach 100 in something you are fully immune, such as being immune to fire (I recently played a very high level party that, with fire shield on, was fully immune to fire, so all the fire elemental areas were a breeze!).

For defense I BELIEVE it's a point for point reduction of damage, although it might be some combo of percents and reductions, dunno. But for evasion, 100 is NOT immune.

As I understand it, the value of both Protection and Evasion increases as you get more of them. 100 / 0 is more potent than 50 / 50.

Evasion is also somewhat stronger than Protection when it applies, but ranged attacks automatically hit, and certain special attacks can't be evaded.

Focusing one front line character on Protection and the other on Evasion is a common strategy since it ensures that at least one of them will be well-suited to survive whatever mess they find themselves in.
