Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and am a big fan of Legend of Grimrock. These old school games are the best!

Now recently, I emailed them about creating a possible Collector's Box Edition of Legend of Grimrock 2 and offered them some advice to use Kickstarter to get us fans to fund something like this. I think it would be a win/win situation for them and to all of us fans.

Please post back with your comments if you would like to support this. I haven't heard back from them yet but if we can get enough people on this, they may decide to do it.

Unfortunately, Finland is unable to utilize Kickstarter.
That said, I would love a collector's edition game for sure.
I am so heavy invested in this community, that it's become a huge part of my life. I would love do have something physical to buy to commemorate my time in this community.

Why can't Finland use kickstarter?

The wikipedia page about Kickstarter says:
"The platform is open to backers from anywhere in the world and to creators from the US or the UK. In June 2013, Kickstarter announced that it would open up to those looking to launch projects from Canada."

And that kinda sucks, because not everyone lives in US or UK.
Also, why would AH need to use Kickstarter? I guess the first Grimrock sold enough to fund the second one. :)

In addition, kickstarter-like things (like indiegogo) are illegal in Finland.. basically you can't ask for money without 1:1 correlation to goods (and yes, you also can't ask for donations) without a special permit, and the permits have very strict scopes and have to do with charity..

The laws were put in place long ago in order to protect people from donation scams, and as result it also covers kickstarter and related business methods.

There is a site in Finland that tries to be kickstarter-like, but in order to work, you can't just support a project with whatever sum you want; instead, each sum must be connected to something, like print books or whatever.

And yes, there have been cases where a finn has run a kickstarter and the police have become interested in the matter, causing the authors to withdraw the kickstarter.

But that's terrible! And.. and unfair!

I considered using kickstarter/indiegogo/something similar when I (hopefully) have my own game company (but that's still far from this day).
And I'm too scared to borrow money from a bank. :)

And yes, I'm from Finland. Also I'm just a teenager, hope that's ok :D

It's a shame that Kickstarter is not allowed in Finland but we like to stay 100% self-funded, at least for time being, so it's not that big a deal for us. Looking at some of the Kickstarters, I have to think do those devs realize how much time it will take to produce all those extra goodies they so eagerly promise to deliver...

It is wonderful that Almost Human are totally independent and do what they want. This is something you must not give up! Please.

In addition, the game features promised me worry too. I am concerned that they will be at the expense of quality. Soon we know it. For three months has come out Divinity: Original Sin and in January 2014 FRONTIERS-Explore, Discover & Survive. Both are looking forward to how small baby. So perhaps I won't disappoint, and if so will be here Grimrock 2 to advance.

Ignoring he KickStarter part of the discussion, I would pay a few quid more to get a 'Digital Collectors Edition', perhaps offering a download of the soundtrack (if there are plans to have a range of music that would make a nice soundtrack). More cool, would be an 'Art of Grimrock' PDF - perhaps showing the many interim design and creation stages of some of the monsters with a few words from the artist and modeller about general workflow.

I don't know whether (financially) it would be worth the extra required time for AH to do this, but if it were - it would be cool :).

And a developer commentary! I would pay the price of the game itself to get that, I love "behind the scenes" stuff.
