Well, I tried throwing all of equipment down, but the damn gate won't open. Or am I approaching from the wrong direction here?

try to put a weapon on the socket in the wall

Maybe there's a place somewhere VERY close for you to place a weapon inside? Like... the small alcove opposite the door? I just tried it by accident and it opened!
