Grimrock

Does this item have any effect on a character? When I take it off and put it back on, I see zero noticeable difference. I checked online and, while finding nothing for this hat, the Grimrock wiki states that the higher your Willpower, the more spell points you get *when you level up*. If this is the case, then I'm better off using high protection gear until I'm about to level up, and if I accidentally level up, revert to previous save and put on the hat. This sound about right? Or is there some other use for the hat I'm too ignorant to figure out?
