Hello everyone,
I played Legend of Grimrock 1 and it was an awesome experience. It felt nostalgic, but at the same time totally new. The combination of old school gameplay, nextgen grafics and a good mix of old and new puzzles was a big win! What I really would like to see are more character classes you can choose from. That's why I decided to join here and post my suggestions.
The Tactician:
The Tactician is a close-ranged DPS / utility character. Having a Tactician in the party helps to get out of dangerous situations or turning the situation into your favour. As a tactican it is quite hard to deal a good amount of damage. While it is possible to do so, it heavily depends on the environment.
Some ideas for skills:
Blunt Provoking: By provoking the enemy, you make him move 3 cells close to you (useable in a 4 cell range). Provoking increases the damage of the enemy slightly, but decreases his defense by a high amount because he lets his guard down. If the enemy does NOT reach you because of an enemy in his way, he attacks nearby enemies through his blind anger (only once, then he calmed down).
Tactical Push: You push the enemy 2 cells away from you and knock him out for 1 turn. If the enemy hits a wall in the progress, he gets damaged. The sooner he hits a wall, the greater is the amount of damage. For example, if the enemy is directly at a wall, the damage is very high. If the enemy gets pushed back 1 cell and hits the wall, the damage is moderate and if he gets pushed back 2 cells (so he didn't hit a wall) he gets low damage.
Fearsome Disorder: The Tactician releases a terrifying noise and light. Because of the noise, all surrounding enemies will run 1 cell away (range of noise is 2 cells in all directions). Furthermore, the enemies get deaf and blind for the next rounds. This makes it easier to hide in shadows and sneak away or doing surprise attacks from the back.
Deathtrap: While all the other skills are there to reposition the enemy, this skills comes in handy when an enemy pursues you. He won't see what's coming at him until he walks into your trap. It works very well with all the other reposition skills, because it gives you enough space to set traps. This trap can (could) perform all kind of different things, like rooting the enemy for X turns andjust doing heavy damage.
Tactician, a true life saver:
Like said, the effectiveness of the skills depend heavily on the environment. If there are no walls and obstactles, it will be hard for the tactican to make enemies walk into your trap or to push them into a wall to deal high amount of damage. But the option to reposition the enemy and giving them debuffs like anger/confuse (attacking own comrades), knock-out (giving you some time to hit the target without resistance) and blind/deaf (extremely good for escaping or doing suprise attacks from the back) is good in every situation. And making blind/deaf enemies walking into your trap should be an easy thing for a Tactician anyway.
He can not equip the medium armors/weapons and he can't use any kind of magic, so his damage output is not compareable with specialized melee fighters or magicans. But still, he is a wise choice if you pick him up into your party, especially in dungeons where he releases his full potential.
