Crabs deal too much damage

I've finally met crabs, and they are BEYOND broken. One of my characters has 22 armor and loses half his health in one hit, he deals 1-7 damage to them, when his sword deals so much more. Now combine this with this with their rapid attacks.
In two hits both my front party members are dead, the only way I was able to get past them was with abusing a ladder

If an area of the game seems hard for your current characters, I would suggest you to go explore some other areas to level up & gather better equipment

Except I've already done exactly that. I am in the only place that is left to visit.

I have to agree. I am down in a dungeon, been down here for hours, finally got one path left to explore and there are 2 crabs. I am not having as much trouble, being on easy right now, but 1 very nearly kills me everytime I fight one. 2 in a row is over kill for me. Luckily I can run away and reheal or touch a crystal in the area, but yeah. The crabs and especially the ice elementals are very very deadly and hard, can be very very annoying. And after going 3 floors down and spending massive amounts of time and resources on this dungeon, I am not just going to leave because 1-2 enemies are killing me over and over...

The crabs have a strong armor. Having a good weapon that can penetrate enemy's armor or just deal high damage helps. Don't forget to use special attacks. Good luck with those bastards!

The only place left? Really?
The first crab encounter i recall is in the Ruins of Desarune. If that's the only place left for you to go to you must have completed Forgotten River (including everything leading up to it), Keelbreach Bog, Sleet Island, Cemetery and Pyramid of Umas.

crabs are indeed very deadly. funny, most of the crabs I'm familiar with typically just cause severe itching.
...
anywho. yeah, best thing I found: frost bombs. there are a lot around to find in various places, and your alchemist can make them.
you'll probably need 2 per crab. whomp on them when frozen.

Crabs hit like a freight train, yes.
But they are also the 2nd slowest enemy in the game (i can think of right now).
The idea is not to get hit at all.. Move people. ;P

Yeah, they're pretty strong, but slow. You pretty much have to kite them to get anywhere. Due to their strong armor, you'll need magic / bombs / special attacks or a character with high critical chance.
I do suspect that you missed some earlier areas (did you go to the bog already?) though, since by the time you got everything else they should be beatable at least.
Also depends on how many secrets you found though, since some of them give good gear.

A really high-damage weapon can do the trick too; the minotaur barbarian in my party was dealing a reasonable amount of damage per swing with the slow-but-heavy axe he had at the time I ran into those crabs.
Elemental damage seems to be the best thing against them, though.
