Evil

Post by Chimera005ao »

These puzzles and traps are evil.

But what's really given me the most trouble is the non-linearity.
If its linear and I reach a dead end, I know I need to find a secret button or solve the puzzle in front of me.
Non-linearity means I have to wonder if the puzzle is solve-able now, or if I need to come back later, or even from a different location...

The scroll, rock, sword puzzle was just trolling.

I think the place was called Lexiconary? Part of, or it was, the Archives.

I know, and the Devs even pointed out to someone in another, if an area is too hard, they want you to actually leave the place and go somewhere else to level up.

I am sorry, but that is shameful. In Grimrock 1 you were always going forward, never going back except for secrets. Here, they tease you with puzzles that are impossible till later after you find some other item, clue, or work around in another dungeon. That is BAD, and BORING, having to backtrack slowly and being so open ended, as you point out, you can never tell if something can be done or not. I almost left a puzzle I couldn't solve, thinking I must have to come back to it later, only to solve it soon after without leaving. You can no longer till when you are actually working on a puzzle and just not getting the clues, or if it is a big waste of time and you should have left already...

Yeah, it gets kinda annoying when you circle around and around trying to solve a riddle you can't actually solve :-/

I really love non-linear dungeons, going just one way forward was quite boring in LOG1, I think that everebody prefer something different :)

I don't think its bad or boring, but can be extremely painful sometimes.
Then again, I beat La-mulana, which was pretty much king of that kind of thing.
You'd find solutions to puzzles in the first area, that you couldn't have done until you've already gone through like 5-6 other whole areas. (each area is basically a dungeon itself...)
