Question on Skills

I have read around trying to find any information on skills, but since I'm not finding anything I hope to ask a question or two:

Will there be skills in:
reading that may help in cyphering cryptic engravings/plaques/etc? (warnings or help solve puzzles, stuff like that)
spotting hidden objects such as doors and such?
spotting obscure levers or such that a character would alert the party to it being there?

We actually tested with these sort of skills at one point but we took them away. Surprisingly they weren't fun at all because they took away the fun of discovering secrets yourself.
