The Ratling boss. Mother of gawd. It sucks because the doors close and there's no way out. So the best thing to do was back into the doorway where you first come in, so you don't get flanked by Ratlings running around the boss... but that also means, not being able to move much...

That damn Leprechaun, with the Meteor Shield location... First time? I picked up the shield, heard the click, saw fire, and I was dead 2 seconds later, without realizing what the #%@! had happened. Second time, I grabbed it, and instantly moved and turned and saw the damn bastard chucking fire bombs. Died about six more times, before I beat him.

That fight can be difficult due to the swarms of ratlings combined with the heavy damage dealt by the cannon. If you're still having trouble defeating that boss, try to always keep one of his minions between you and him so that he cannot fire on you. Once you clear the trash, it becomes easier. Have potions and bombs ready. If you'd like to take a look, I've actually recorded that boss fight.Sir Tawmis wrote: First wasSpoilerShowThe Ratling boss. Mother of gawd. Force Field is your friend for blocking off and tieing up things in fights like this.Sir Tawmis wrote:In the Desnar or whatever area...

He shows up at the most random times and it always ends the same. With me having to reload after he kills everyone because he shows up right when I was not ready and everyone was low on health at the time and then just casting protections and curbstomp him.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Funny thing, when I first encountered the ratling boss I panicked and got into a nook by accident, letting me take them on 1 by 1.
He was third in line, when his number came up I repeatedly froze him, just a reminder that bombs are great for boss battles.
I died to him once, beat him in the meteor shield room the second try.

Not really bullshit when you actually plan things out, watch where you step and what the enemy is doing.Saice wrote: Yeah I hate that guy. Oh, I finally beat him. But it took two tries. First time, I wasn't aware of what to expect - so I did panic. Moved around, got cornered in a spot where I had ratlings on all sides of me, cutting away at me, and my inventory was too unorganized to effectively do anything.Keeper wrote: RE: Ratling Boss

Second time, I then knew what to expected. Sorted things in my inventory. And managed to kill him. (Not in 3 minutes, like some folks! It took me about five minutes, of throw, move, run up, hit, back up, throw, move, hit, rinse repeat!)
A solid plan is your mage has that spell. I focused first on fire (for damage), maxing it out as much as I could. Then ice. So by the time I got here, I had not had that spell available to me yet.Saice wrote: Force Field is your friend for blocking off and tieing up things in fights like this.
Oh, I was throwing bombs like there was no tomorrow. Just not the first time when I was caught unaware.MasterworkStone wrote: Funny thing, when I first encountered the ratling boss I panicked and got into a nook by accident, letting me take them on 1 by 1.

Yes. More annoying is as he's doing all this, he's laughing... that drives me nuts.Keeper wrote: RE: Leprechaun

Yeah, but the thing is - you walk in, open a door, and there's a two handed sword. You pick it up, and nothing happens. Walk over another 30 feet, see a shield, go to pick it up and all Hell breaks out loose.MasterworkStone wrote:Not really bullshit when you actually plan things out, watch where you step and what the enemy is doing.Saice wrote: Yeah I hate that guy. The Lephrechaun's appearance is completely unpredictable (first time around).

Here is a sure fire strat for the Ratling Boss
Leprechaun is funny and I wonder if you can actually defeat him fully?
SpoilerShow
I go straight to the key unlock door and get the hell out of that room.

I hadn't even thought of that tactic!
I don't think so. You can "defeat" him so he vanishes; but he always comes back later to annoy the #&#* out of your party!sapientCrow wrote: Leprechaun is funny and I wonder if you can actually defeat him fully?

That is the thing it is almost always the second try. Because there is rarely any forewarning before the firebombs start dropping. And once you reload its a cake walk fight of just avoiding his attacks.

I actually have a funny Leprechaun story... He has good reason to hate my party!
When we were exploring some underground tunnels, back in Twigroot I think, killing numerous ratlings in the damp darkness, we eventually came across a blurred silhouette, which I thought was just another ratling vagabond ready to slit our throats. I cast the poison bolt spell, and only when it hit the creature did I realize that it was actually a Leprechaun I'd shot at! D: (First encounter) He high-tailed it immediately down the hallways, losing damage over time from the poison, culminating in him vanishing into the darkness right after having locked a metal gate between him and my group! I considered reloading, but decided it would be more immersive to continue playing, so I did.
Now he's unleashing his sweet revenge on me whenever he gets the chance! xD I keep screaming, "I'm sorry!I thought you were a pirat!" over his mad cackling and reckless bomb throwing, but I don't think he wants to hear anything I have to say. D:

For the Ratling room,
SpoilerShow
I cast invisibility and went in the room to do recon. When I returned to the entrance, the stupid rats followed me one at a time so I effortlessly killed them all. The big rat stayed in the main area and was then easy to finish off without his support team.
