Special Attacks?

Post by Kholdy »

I've been going through the game pretty well, but I haven't really used any special attacks yet. I'm not sure when they are worth it, since it seems like you lose DPS while charging it up, so the effect must be worth that charging time.

Most notably, I have a Fighter with Heavy Weapons. Which Heavy Weapons have good special attacks?

Have a look at the Atlas thread at the top of the forum: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7859

The weapon stats are covered on the first page; there are a few discussion posts at the end which just led to special attack info being added to them.

Some specials could be seen as always worth using when possible. Some aren't really worth using unless you have a free moment in your rhythm. Any of them could be useful in specific circumstances, particularly if you're spending a lot of time evading and can charge up in the meantime.

Ah, I can see from that thread that you had a similar question in the past. This post seems to be just what I needed, thanks! And here I thought Thrust was just an attack that goes 2 squares, or something. And I also thought Stun was just 1x attack power too...

Unless I'm missing something, it SEEMS to be the case that I should attack last with my fighter, so that I can charge my weapon while all other characters are on cooldown.

It seems to me that Flurry and Cleave are must use if you have energy (unless you want to save energy), Bash and Knockback are situationally useful, and and the rest I'm better off attacking normally most of the time.

All I used was 2 heavy weapons characters and mostly special attacks and it was pretty easy.
I don't know what the stats are but harvest time and devastate do huge damage, I did not watch that much, but they both seem better than some people/stats make out.
Sometimes harvest time did more than 800 damage for me when I got to a decent level, maybe more. Near end I killed a fire golem in one hit (with devastate I think), I killed another in desert with 3 hits, usually it takes more hits though.

Some of the early easy to get heavy weapons are handy even if the special is not useful.
Flurry weapons are not great as you get hit a lot. Knock back/stun was not very useful.
I liked ax. Cool name, lol.

The most useful weapon early on is a light weapon... the trident, as it can hit insects with its special attack. Playing one character I bee lined for that.

I generally use lulls in combat to charge up special attacks. Such as when you're waiting for a monster to approach you and you can't deal damage anyway. Then you might as well make use of that time and charge up an attack to release for when you can.

Insects, you mean the green flying things? That's actually a good tip since I don't know that.

I know about Harvest Time and its high crit numbers, but what was wondering is that my Fighter didn't have unlimited energy and half of the time I was using regular attacks. If so, shouldn't I use the Claymore instead? The other thing I'm wondering is whether Meteor Storm (of the hammer) is worth the 1 point dip into Fire Magic, especially since I have shit Willpower and won't do much damage.

Willpower does not affect damage. But in addition to having limited charges, the damage/time on the Meteor Hammer's special is godawful; it has a 10 second cooldown!
