Open world à la Doomdark's Revenge

I'm just curious to see if it's possible to create a mod without any dungeons. Let's say you want to recreate Doomdark's Revenge. Beside a bunch of tunnels with a few minor monsters only landscape. Traveling through a forest is slower than a grassland. When night falls you need to take a rest as there are no light sources besides some huts and towers. Difficult to kill mobs room the world at night. Killing animals for food or fish in a lake. Encounter people you can recruit and send out for quest like recruit friends or kill foes. Or swap a party member with any of your recruits. Discover messages leading to treasure, etc. Since your recruits don't have an army, more recruits means more stat/resist buffs. Without these buffs it would be impossible to defeat the end boss.

You would need the following:
- a way to recruit friends and send them on quests and be able to swap with them (Basically you would have a huge party max 20 people with only 4 visible)
- inside towers there should a spiral staircase like in a lighthouse.
- huts with windows
- a fishing rod
- a movement increase or decrease depending on terrain
- a way to make torches
- a map where the edge would teleport to another land (with a visible distance copied from the previous map)
- towards the end there would be a snowy terrain with frozen blockers

trivial

easy (albeit hacky) since CameraComponent exists
Frenchie wrote:- huts with windows
trivial
Frenchie wrote:- a fishing rod
what
Frenchie wrote:- a movement increase or decrease depending on terrain
not really possible currently
Frenchie wrote:- a way to make torches
trivial
Frenchie wrote:- a map where the edge would teleport to another land (with a visible distance copied from the previous map)
not possible to do automatically (heightmaps), wouldn't really work at all for objects where update rate is important like monsters
Frenchie wrote:- towards the end there would be a snowy terrain with frozen blockers
trivial

Some better descriptions:
- a fishing rod
minmay: what?
To fish for food 'attack' the water with a fishing rod equiped. There should be an animation of a fishing line hitting the water that stays there followed by an animation of the bobber being pulled. Then 'attack' again to reel in the line. Randomly add a fish to backpack or give a hud message "The fish got away" or "There seem to be no fish anymore".
- a movement increase or decrease depending on terrain
minmay: not really possible
Each day starts with an amount of action points. When it reaches zero, night will fall in and you have to rest. All terrain except walls or rocks are not blocked, but by checking the terrain of the party action points used up quicker. Grass = 1 AP, hills = 2 AP, etc.
- a map where the edge would teleport to another land (with a visible distance copied from the previous map)
minmay: not possible
Maybe small passages with blocked scenery on both sides like in LoG2 is a better solution.

i don't understand why you would want this but it is trivial to do, yes

oh, I thought you meant changing the party speed. an AP system like this would be trivial, yeah

A better idea for fishing might be using a harpoon to spear fish or set traps as it would take less animations. You throw your harpoon in the water from the edge and pick it up after with randomly a fish extra in your backpack. Same for traps. To make it look good both items add caught fish to it that separate when you pick them up.

The idea of killing animals or fishing or getting food from other people are the only options obtaining food. Unlike LoG there are no dungeons with food found on certain mobs or in alcoves. So you must plan your route well, else you'll run out of action points and go to sleep hungry. The next day you will have a lesser amount of action points to start with.
