Grimrock

I bought Legends of Grimrock 2 this weekend. Unfortunately, I am not able to play it.

- The game crashes after half a minute or so into gameplay. Every time.
- First, all three monitors switch into energy saving mode, then after a couple of seconds, everything stalls, and I have to manually turn off and on the computer to bring the system back to life again. So I assume it has to do something with the grafic controller (Nvidia GeForce GTX 590)
- I installed the LoG 2 compatibility test. Same result: It crashes after a couple of seconds.
- I also tried to reduce the max frame rate be fiddling with the cfg-file and setting MaxFrameRate to 60. Same result.
- I bought the Steam version of the game, so I assume it must be the most recent one. On screen, it displays V 2.2.4, however, the Log-File says it is 2.1.3.
- Legend of Grimrock I played fine on my system.


What can I do apart from claiming my money back?

What does the log file say?

As far as i recall the GTX 590 is a Dual GPU card so it's likely you need to tweek your SLI setup. This might help.

In case it's not SLI (try disabling it) this

sounds a lot like your PSU going bad. Regarding Power Consumption the GTX 590 is a real monster.

overheating of GPU? (install GPU-z) Peak power consumption to high for PSU? How many FPS you get overall? ("debugInfo=true" in cfg)

The PSU delivers 850 W. Should be enough for the GPU, no?

I changed debuginfo to true in the config. Where can I read the frame rate now? It does not say anything on the screen or in the log file.

I reduced screen resolution, rendering quality etc. in the LoG2 settings. It still crashes (but it takes longer until it does).

I also disabled the two other monitors in the NVIDIA settings. Still crashes.

When it's new and of good quality it may. Now a GTX 590 isn't exactly new so if your PSU is about the same age ..

You can do something simple to test this if it can still deliver: grab some extensive gfx demo like those from Unigine or get the Furmark test, run it for a while and see what happens.
