Deets about map layout and possible puzzle ahead;

In the top right hand corner of level 9 there is a u-shaped corridor, and whenever I walk along it my direction keeps getting switched 180.
At first I thought it was a graphical bug but then I noticed my compass.
Is this planned or is my computer about to explode from so many straight hours of LoG?
