I know this is an old thread, but I don't frequent the boards outside of the Modding board as often as I should.

Had great fun playing Cyberpunk 2020. It's near-future sci-fi (and a little outdated in places now) but the setting is a lot of fun, even if the system itself is easily broken / abused. Only other sci-fi table top RPGs I have played have all been based on the GURPS system. I quite like it, although it took a bit of getting used to. I really want to play ShadowRun, but haven't found a group for that game.

Also have to say - Eclipse the board game is fantastic. The expansion is good, and I love the way they've got all 4X components into the board game in a great way.

So I was at my local geekshop and I saw that they have a game of Eclipse for under $100
I think after I get the PS4 next month, I might look into that.

I just looked that up. It looked interesting. Man, there are a million games and settings I'd havee liked more than d&d with forgotten realms. I kinda shafted myself. (Well, it possibly t exactly my choice, but still.)

The choices I would make now would be (not just scifi): Black sun(ad&d), warhammer 40,000 Inquisition, Under the Serpant Sun, and Mask of the Red Death (ad&d).
Though I would possibly cook up my own rules to make the two ad&d ones into 3.5. As you can probably tell I like storytelling and darker settings.

Indeed.

As for me... I never played Gamma World/Traveler/Cyberspace :(... The Sci-fi RPGs I actually got to play were Rifts and Robotech ~both were good I thought, though some seem to think Rifts (or perhaps just original rule-set) seemed unbalanced... I didn't think so. I think most of it probably stemmed from a misunderstanding of Mega-Damage weapons. MD weapons hit like a tank shell and would obliterate almost any mortal unarmored PC or NPC.

I think my favorite Sci-Fi RPG is T.M.N.T.

What are everyone's favorite Sci-fi table top games?
Hands-down, Paranoia. My friends and I in high school loved it. Never made it very far, since I was a pretty sadistic GM, heh.

Also loved playing GURPS Space and GURPS Cyberpunk, MegaTraveller and such. For board games, we always like Dragonriders of Pern and the Buck Rodgers board game.

It's not sci-fi, but Tunnels and Trolls was another favorite. :)

The TT SF RPG I regularly play is Shadowrun 5th Ed. using Season 4 mission but soon moving to Season 5. For the uninitiated, this is the official game system campaign. I play a hermetic mage of ancient Egyptian Bast theme.

As to SF games I love (and own) but don't play much or at all, I have to put Traveller at the top. Bought the 1st Ed. back in the late 70s, have all the editions through the decades and recently acquired the T5 edition.

Others on my shelves, considered favorite and yet not limited to are Star Wars Saga Edition, Decipher's Star Trek, The Mutant Epoch and Mutants & Masterminds. After that I have at least a dozen others

I played a lot of Mutant as a teenager. Its a dirty post-apocalyptic sci-fi where mega-corporations rule the world or rather the mega-cities. Outside there are tons of forbidden zones
where radiation has gone crazy creating dangerous species. You can play as a Mutant, Human, Cyborg or a Psi-Mutant. There are also space stuff depending on how far into the future you wanna play. Im not sure if there are any other translations of it then the
swedish one.
